Okay, this post is probably going to get me in trouble. (Not exactly the headline you’d expect from a devout Christian girl like myself).
I don’t know Paris Hilton personally. Certainly, how she has conducted herself publicly at times hasn’t exactly been a shining example of modesty. Not judging; just making an observation. And certainly it goes without saying that I don’t really have any idea what kind of wife she would be. Hang in there with me anyway (you’re already reading the post; might as well keep reading).
Paris Hilton caused quite a stir with this Brazilian beer ad. Go ahead and watch it. I’ll wait. It will only take a minute. Just be sure to come back to the post. As tempting as it may be, don’t keep watching it over and over, adding to the more than 1 million hits it already has on YouTube.
Pretty racy, huh? Voyeurism offered up as good ol’ fashioned capitalism, with just a hint of playfulness thrown in for the heck of it. The ad was actually banned in Brazil for being too hot…for crossing some kind of arbitrary line of decency (a wandering line that seems to change haphazardly, depending on who it serves best).
Obviously, this ad is deplorable on so many fronts, I can’t even count them. Hard to say what is worse…Paris agreeing to do the ad? The way the photographer looks at her and actually snaps photos? The way she looks at him? The way the crowds are turned on by it? The ad exec who designed the ad (who no doubt is thrilled it was banned. Nothing is more irresistable in the public eye than that which has been classified as off limits. I imagine Devassa Beer has made a pretty penny off of this kind of attention). Deplorable I tell you. Deplorable.
So why do I think Paris Hilton would make a good wife? I’m just going to comment on one aspect of wifehood.
Imagine if how she carried herself in this ad was happening in the privacy of her own home, while she was alone with her husband (yes, I know she is not married, but pretend with me for illustration sake. We’ve come this far).
Does the scenario then become glorifying to God? If the man to whom she casts her gaze and her allure were not a stranger across the street, but rather the man she had pledged her life and love to, do we then embrace her sexual confidence? Do we esteem it as an honorable form of worship?
Sex and sexual arousal were designed by God. The Brazilian beer ad skews what is good and holy…takes what was tenderly crafted by Him and cheapens it beyond measure. Counterfeit pleasure in less than a minute.
If you are a wife who struggles with seeing sex as good… as a valuable component of marriage…I humbly encourage you to draw close to your Creator. He is the best source to right our wrong thinking about sexual intimacy. He is the best source to help us understand that true sexual confidence is not defined by what society says is hot. It’s not about the clothes or the hair or the make-up or the legs that seem to go on forever.
Sexual confidence and authentic sexual encounter find their fullest potential and value only within the covenant of a marriage bed. No fabricated beer ad can match what can occur between a husband and a wife who offer themselves fully to understanding and enjoying each other.
Someday, should Paris Hilton get married, I hope to God she gives to her husband what she gave to the people of Brazil…and to the world really, thanks to YouTube.

I want to amplify that a woman does not have to look like Paris to drive her husband to complete lust crazed distraction. The body is not the point, but rather the enthusiastic offer. If a woman understands how men work sexually, she can have pretty much any man she wants, pretty much no matter what she looks like. Put that into the context of a loving marriage, and the reality is a wife can tie her husband into wonderful sexual knots any time she wants.
Good points Paul! Appreciate your insight!! You are right… the point isn’t to get caught up in society’s standards of “pretty” or “sexy” — but rather recognize that attractiveness and sexiness exude from a woman who is confident in herself and values the fact that she IS beautiful (she was, after all, made by an awesome Creator…and He doesn’t make anything that isn’t awesome). It saddens me so much that so many married couples are missing out on how great intimacy can be…simply because they are drowning in society’s lies and one or both of them is unwilling to embrace and nurture a sexual relationship within their marriage.
You know … I really didn’t get the point of the beer ad – but I loved the music!! Intimacy and sex are for me as similar as ice cream and a cherry. One doesn’t equal the other but sex in an already genuinely intimate husband and wife relationship is like the cherry on top! I/we have so much to learn about intimacy once you start shedding the layers of misinformation about what it really is from the world’s perspective.
Intimacy is such a deep subject, it’s hard to imagine Paris Hilton scratching the surface of such a beautiful concept in her beer ad.
Thanx for the thought provoking post.

Thanks Jonathan for the comment… I agree with your observation… “we have so much to learn about intimacy once you start shedding the layers of misinformation…” So well put!! THANK YOU!
